No, late night shift for you “Girl”

“No, we won't permit you to work late at night, not at any cost”, my mom said. I had a new Job offer with handsome salary and nice perks in my hand. No, no I am not jobless. I am working with one of the known media firms, and I am happy with my job. I am enjoying my life.

Everybody loves to move ahead in life, but I wasn't ready for it. The job profile attracted me a lot. It was all about page 3 reporting. Wow, that means, soon my social circle would surround eminent personalities from the glamorous world. It sounds good. But is it? Page 3, means working late nights and coming back home at wee hours.

Though it's not a big deal, as many people work in late nights. Surely there might be many girls too working at this time. Then why not me? Will I be ok, to leave my comfort den for such a stressful job? All these thoughts kept hovering in my mind.

My parents just said no, without blinking or giving it a second thought. What working late night? No, its not at all safe, see what happened to the headlines producer Soumya Vishwanathan, my mom told me. Yes, that was a scary tragedy. The journalist was shot dead by some one while returning home at 3 am.

Does that means, that not a single women will work late in night?

The fear of life, the incidents, the accidents happening daily, will this confine women to be in home by 8 pm , or 9 pm?

What happened to the security of women? Shall this be made the rule of our country, that women should not leave their premises after 8 pm? Are we so helpless?

Police are still clueless about the murder of Soumya Vishwnatahan. No, one knows what happened to her on that fateful night.

Everyone wants recognition in his or her life. And working hard is the only solution. But is this the recognition we get?
She is recognised today,
She will be rcognised tomorrow,
As a journalist who died , because of working till late at night.

Was it inevitable?

I would have given a second thought to my new job offer, but life comes first. The fear of the x factor has stopped me and my family from considering the option of working late nights.
And definitely this would have changed many minds till now. Working in late night shifts is not safe for women.

Does it mean that women working in late night shifts, need male escort to return home,or else they might end up dead.

There's just a hope in everyone's heart to see the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. One day things would be fine. Women will one day work without fear, no matter day or night. But when will that 'one day' come?
