Mahatma's soul in Obama

It feels great to be an Indian. I belong to the land of Mahatma Gandhi. A man who is idolised all over the world for the change he brought to India. He fought against all the odds to earn freedom for India from colonial rule.

I saw the making of Mahatma at the age of 13 and have still not forgotten a single scene of the movie. I remember , I was all in tears while watching the movie.. It wasn't an emotional drama. It was the story of our legend who gave his blood and sweat to make our country an independent nation.

Look at India. Yes its my country, where there is no racial discrimination, no ethnic discrimination. You are not known by your religion, you are known as an Indian. Yes , an Indian.

A black man will now become president of a predominantly white America. It was a tough fight between John McCain and Barack Obama.

A black man in White House?-A headline seen on most of the international and Indian news channels.

The results are out Barack Obama won the US presidential poll. People from all over the country are celebrating the victory of the 44th US President. It was the victory over racism.

The thing which made me write the blog was the headline I saw on the news24 website- Obama's leap of faith fired by Mahatma Gandhi. Wow , Its surprising to see such a thing , the President of US idolises Mahatma Gandhi. It really made me feel great.

From a virtual unknown outside his home state of Illinois to the most powerful man on earth, Barack Obama has come a long way in less than two years with his historic election as the first African American US president.

Obama is an ardent admirer of Mahatma Gandhi, the pioneer of Satyagraha - resistance to tyranny through mass civil disobedience.

"In my life, I have always looked to Mahatma Gandhi as an inspiration, because he embodied the kind of transformational change that can be made when ordinary people come together to do extraordinary things,".
"That is why his portrait hangs in my Senate office; to remind me that real results will not just come from Washington, they will come from the people" he wrote in an article.
Obama seems very much inspired by Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gnadhi was known to change the history of Indians.
And now its Obama with a historic win, who says "There's not a liberal America and a conservative America; there is the United States of America. There's not a black America and a white America and Latino America and Asian America; there is the United States of America,".
Doesn't it sound as if Mahatma Gandhi is talking to us saying..This is not a Hindus land, neither a Muslim or Christans land.. It is the land of Indians.
