Anna Hazare- The Indian Nayak

It was year 2001 when Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee starrer Nayak had hit theatres on September 7. And I remember I couldn’t get an opportunity to see the movie in theatres, as I was just 14 at that time.

But when I saw it on our cable TV, I was glued with TV for two and a half hours. Tears kept rolling down my cheeks to see a brave man who lost his parents in his fight against corruption.

I have usually seen filmmakers making films by being influenced with the real stories that take place in our day today lives.

It was a story of a common man, a journalist who while interviewing the chief minister showcases his real picture of a corrupt politician live on national television. And there in a rage of fit the CM offers him to take his chair and he accepts the challenge. From there the story starts and his fight against the corrupt government and corruption starts.

But this is for the first time; I can see a man of 74 years old portraying the character of a true Nayak in this country.

Kisan Baburao Hazare a man who was born ten years and two months before India gained its Independence would have hardly ever thought that he would be a leader of India’s second freedom fight against corruption.

Hazare was born in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra on June 15 1937.

And now in the year 2011, he is the living legend of India who reflects Mahatma Gandhi and his ideology.

A real hero who made the millions of people walk behind him in his fight to press Indian government to implement a strict Lokpal bill to fight corruption and corrupt people.

Recently after high cases of people like A.Raja, Kanimozhi, Suresh Kalmadi, Madhu Koda being charged with corruption cases the need for a strict law against corruption seems evident.

It’s true that India needs to have a better system in place. And the increasing corruption in the country is taking a toll on its development. We are ruled by unscrupulous government. Until and unless every single person of this nation stands against the ruling government, we won’t be able to eradicate corruption from our society.

I never had goose bumps on watching programmes of Independence day or republic day.

But this was for the first time on August 16, I felt the importance of our Independence.

Thousands of people shouting slogans and holding rallies throughout the country in support of our real hero Anna Hazare really touched my soul.

Even before his proposed fast against corruption had started, the coward government on its waywardness arrested Anna Hazare from his home early in the morning, and brought itself flak from all corners of the society.

Now people from each nook and corner of the country and Indian nationals from outside the country have taken on streets to support Anna Hazare’s fight against corruption.

It feels proud to be a part of the day which would be remembered in history now for years to come. I support Anna !
